Explore the beaches of Long Island
Summer is almost here, and one of the best ways to enjoy this time in New York is to explore Long Island's wide variety of beaches.
If you don't want to venture too far from New York City, Jones Beach State Park is a great option. Whether you enjoy swimming, fishing, birdwatching or simply walking on the boardwalk, this beach has it all. While you are there, be sure to check out the "Castles in the Sand" photo collection at the East Bathhouse and the Theodore Roosevelt Nature Center.
Continuing eastward on Long Island, you will find Robert Moses State Park. Often less crowded than Jones Beach, Robert Moses is the perfect place for a day relaxing by the water. Or, if you prefer to be more active, you can check out the 18-hole Robert Moses State Park Pitch & Putt Golf Course.
If you prefer to fish the waters, rather than swim in them, then head out to Montauk Pont State Park. The long trip from NYC is worth it for some of the best surf fishing in the world. While you are there, explore the many nature trails or watch the seals basking in the sun.
