Contemporary art on Randall's Island
Fans of contemporary art will want to make their way to Randall's Island this May for the first edition of the Frieze Art Fair.
On May 4 to 7, visit Randall's Island to check out 180 contemporary art galleries from around the globe. This special exhibition will be housed in a bespoke structure designed by New York-based SO-IL architects.
Many of the Frieze projects will be situated outside and will incorporate the unique geography of Randall's Island. Participating artists include John Ahearn, Uri Aran, Latifa Echakhch, Joel Kyack, Rick Moody, Virginia Overton, Tim Rollins and K.O.S. and Ulla von Brandenburg.
In addition to exploring the artwork, visitors can enjoy daily presentations, panel discussions and conversations featuring such artists, writers and cultural commentators as Georges Didi-Huberman (Professor, École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Paris) Okwui Enwezor (Director, Haus der Kunst, Munich), Zoe Leonard (Artist), Glenn D. Lowry (Director, The Museum of Modern Art, New York), Saskia Sassen (Robert S. Lynd Professor of Sociology Columbia University, New York), Allan Sekula (Artist), Taryn Simon (Artist), Robert Storr (Dean, Yale School of Art), and Sheena Wagstaff (Chairman, Modern and Contemporary Art Department, Metropolitan Museum, New York).
