Get fit for free

Staying fit doesn't have to cost a fortune. To promote its BeFitNYC program, the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene along with the NYC Parks department have teamed up for a special fitness event June 12 at Washington Square Park.

The live event, sponsored by Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, will showcase some of the popular free and low-cost fitness activities which can be found on the BeFitNYC online search engine and Facebook page. Activities include Zumba classes, running analysis from Jack Rabbit Sports running shoe experts and arm strength testing.

The event takes places from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is free for all participants.
