Talkin' Turkey in the Big Apple
Everywhere we go, we hear how it just isn't Christmas unless it's Christmas in New York. The big tree at Rockefeller Center, the fabulous kick-line of Rockettes in skimpy Santa suits, the kids clamoring to see Santa at FAO Schwartz...if the snow falls just right, the City turns into a magical winter wonderland. Of course, we're always available to offer you a limo ride to get your holiday shopping done.
It is wonderful, and we do hope to see you here this Christmas. However, don't forget Thanksgiving offers a fun time in the City as well. Sure, we have the huge Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, but that's not the only thing that defines the Thanksgiving season in New York City.
We associate Thanksgiving dinners with turkey and stuffing and all the trimmings, and to be sure a number of area restaurants will offer special menus. However, Thanksgiving wasn't all pumpkin pie and dinner rolls for our early settlers. Timeline Touring offers a special tour of the Lower East Side this season, recounting the history of immigrants in the City and how they gave thanks for chance to live in the land of opportunity. Instead of turkey and cranberry sauce, you may get to sample more ethnic flavors which our forefathers enjoyed.
Water's Edge Restaurant on the East River offers a special traditional menu for the day. We can drop you off at 34th street in Long Island while you take a water taxi across the river, and we'll be waiting for you when you're done to take you home, or for a leisurely ride to drive off that turkey!
If you're tired of football and endless cartoon Thanksgiving specials, why not celebrate the day with some music. True, the first Thanksgiving centered around settlers come from the old world, but the B.B. King Blues Club presents a unique T-giving concert of Beatles music, featuring cast members of Beatlemania. Newer music from the old world that took the whole world by storm. All you need is love, and stuffing.
