When the Big Apple goes Oom-Pah-Pah

Oktoberfest is one of the major celebrations in Germany, if not the largest the country sees annually. From late September through early October, millions of people descend upon Munich to eat, drink, be merry, and maybe have some luck with a Mary or two. Friends who have been to Germany around this time tell us work literally shuts down so everybody can enjoy the party.

How nice it would be to take a mandatory two-week national holiday and gorge on potato salad and bratwurst. Here, though, we are content to indulge in a number of Oktoberfest happenings around the city, Third Avenue closes off for the entire month of October! This is the perfect time to contact us to escort you from Biergarten to Brauerie. So strap on your Lederhosen and oom-pah-pah as much as you want, and we'll get you home safely before it's time to go back to work.

Downtown Bar & Grill in Brooklyn celebrates a beer and food tasting every third Wednesday, and this month features Oktoberfest delights. Call 718-596-4835 for information and reservations.

Zum Schnieder Biergarten is already in full swing. Check out their current menu and stop by the first two weeks of October for live oompah music (not to be confused with those singing orange men from the Willy Wonka movie).

The NYPD Steuben Association holds its annual Oktoberfest in Queens, with food and live music.

And if you're looking for authentic wurst and Oktoberfest beer in the city, Lederhosen comes highly recommended. They even have WiFi access now, so you can drop us a line over e-mail if you need to be picked up!
