The City is for kids, too!
A friend with a two-year-old girl is coming to the City for a weekend, and worries that her options for sightseeing will be limited with a youngster along for the ride. Not necessarily. Big and busy though New York City is, it's not just a place for grown-ups. No matter what your age, interest, or desire, the City is the perfect playground for a weekend stay.
For a little tyke, we can recommend a number of city landmarks to visit. Of course, the Statue of Liberty and Central Park come to mind, awe-inspiring sites for any age. If you want to beat this current heat wave, you can always hop in a limo and embark on a grand shopping excursion.
Which leads us right to the expected segue into FAO Schwartz. How could you not bring your child to one of the greatest toy stores ever? Life-size stuffed animals and collectible dolls await kids of every age - some may be inclined to wait for their parents to stop playing so they'll get a turn! In midtown you can also find one of the largest Toys R Us stores on the planet, featuring an indoor ferris wheel and two-story Barbie playhouse. You could get lost in there for hours.
Then there's Dylan's Candy Bar on Third Avenue, featuring probably the largest candy selection in the City. Here you can indulge in custom flavored ice cream and explore two floors of every chocolate and sugar-coated delight imaginable.
For girls especially (though our friend has a little one, she is a doll lover) we recommend American Girl Place, the City's home of the popular American Girl book characters. Kids can enjoy an authentic afternoon tea, enjoy the themed shows and learn more about the history in which these American girls lived.
