Still imagining
Hard to believe tomorrow will mark twenty-five years since John Lennon was needlessly murdered in our city. Though he wasn't a native, New York City was his home for the last years of life; he loved it here, and we loved having him here. The city was better off for his prescence, and the world is just a tad dimmer for his absence.
We haven't found any information on any official events to commemorate this sad event, though it stands to reason some die-hard Lennon fans will pay tribute in some form. Maybe there will be flowers laid by the Dakota, or a solemn gathering at the Strawberry Fields Memorial in Central Park. It's said not a day goes by when some kind of token isn't left on the mosaic marker, so tomorrow shouldn't be any different. The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center, however, will host a holiday park lighting that day from 4:00-6:00PM, and while it's not related it seems almost appropriate to celebrate the day with music and joy, as Lennon gave us both.
